How to pray for your husband with Scripture, a head-to-toe prayer guide, prayers for when he's struggling, and prayers for your marriage.

To pray for your husband, bring him to God by name every day, thank God for him, and ask for specific needs in his walk with God, his work, his health, and your marriage. Praying Scripture over him, from head to toe, gives you words when you don’t know where to start.
How do you pray for your husband?
Praying for your husband means bringing his whole life to God, regularly and specifically. Thank God for him, then pray for his walk with Jesus, his thoughts and words, his work, his health, his friendships, and your marriage. Ask what he’s facing this week and pray for that. Pray Scripture over him, and keep praying in seasons when change is slow.
How do you pray for your husband from head to toe?
Praying for your husband from head to toe means praying a verse over each part of his life:
- His mind. “Be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2, ESV). Lord, fill his thoughts with what is true.
- His eyes. “Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways” (Psalm 119:37, ESV). Guard what he looks at.
- His ears. “Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger” (James 1:19, ESV). Make him a good listener.
- His mouth. “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips” (Psalm 141:3, ESV). Let his words build up.
- His heart. “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23, ESV). Make his heart Yours.
- His hands. “Establish the work of our hands upon us” (Psalm 90:17, ESV). Bless his work, whatever it is.
- His steps. “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:6, ESV). Guide his decisions.
How do you pray for your husband’s walk with God?
Praying for your husband’s walk with God is the most important prayer you can pray for him. Paul’s prayer is a good one to pray with his name in it: that he would be “strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith” and would “know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge” (Ephesians 3:16-19, ESV). Pray that he would love God’s Word, pray, and grow.
How do you pray for your husband when he’s struggling?
Praying for your husband when he’s struggling means asking God to meet him where he is:
- Under stress or in a hard job: “They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31, ESV).
- Discouraged or grieving: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18, ESV).
- Weak or tired: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9, ESV).
- Facing a decision: pray for wisdom (James 1:5).
Ask him how you can pray, and let him know you did. If he’s struggling with his mental health, pray and also encourage him to get help from a doctor, counselor, or pastor.
How do you pray for your marriage?
Praying for your marriage invites God into the relationship you share. Pray Colossians 3:12-14 over both of you: “compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and… forgiving each other… And above all these put on love” (ESV). “A threefold cord is not quickly broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:12, ESV). Pray for patience, forgiveness, laughter, and time together. See prayer app for couples.
How can The Pray App help you pray for your husband?
The Pray App keeps a prayer card for your husband so you pray for him every day. On Home, tap New prayer card, write your prayer, add him under Praying for, and set Repeat to Daily. Add a Bible verse from the head-to-toe list.
Write a specific prayer for what he’s facing this week.
For the head-to-toe prayers, make a card for each area and set each to Weekly on a different day. After you pray, the summary lists him with a message button that opens Messages with “Hi Sam, I prayed for you today.” ready to send. Flip a card over to journal what you’re praying and how God answers.
Scripture also speaks to husbands directly: “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25, ESV). For the other side, see how to pray for your wife.
The Pray App is free on the App Store, with no ads. See how to tag people and text them.
