How to pray for your wife, in every season
· 3 min read
How to pray for your wife with Scripture, what to pray for each part of her life, prayers for difficult times and her birthday, and prayers for your marriage.

To pray for your wife, bring her to God by name every day, thank God for her, and ask for specific needs in her walk with God, her heart, her health, her work, and your marriage. Ask her what to pray for. Praying for her is one of the most loving things you can do.
How do you pray for your wife?
Praying for your wife means bringing her whole life to God, regularly and specifically. Thank God for her, then pray for her walk with Jesus, her peace and joy, her health, her work and calling, her friendships, and your marriage. Ask her what she’s carrying this week and pray for that. Pray Scripture over her, and let her know you’re praying.
What should you pray for each part of your wife’s life?
Praying for your wife can follow the parts of her life:
- Her walk with God. That she would “know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge” (Ephesians 3:19, ESV).
- Her heart and mind. “The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7, ESV).
- Her rest. Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, ESV).
- Her work and calling. Whatever she gives her days to, that God would “establish the work of our hands” (Psalm 90:17, ESV).
- Her friendships. People who encourage her and point her to Jesus (Hebrews 10:24).
- Her health. Strength, healing, and wisdom for her doctors when she needs them.
- Joy. “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10, ESV).
How do you pray for your wife in difficult times?
Praying for your wife in difficult times means asking God to carry her through it:
- When she’s anxious or afraid: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you” (Isaiah 41:10, ESV).
- When she’s grieving: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18, ESV).
- When she’s exhausted: pray for rest and practical help, then be part of the answer.
- When she’s sick: pray for healing and for her doctors (James 5:14-16).
Ask her how you can pray, and pray with her when she wants you to. If she’s struggling with her mental health, pray, and also help her find support from a doctor, counselor, or pastor.
How do you pray for your wife on her birthday?
Praying for your wife on her birthday is a way to thank God for her and bless the year ahead. The blessing God gave His people is a beautiful one to pray: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26, ESV). Add, “Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12, ESV).
How do you pray for your marriage?
Praying for your marriage asks God to shape you both. Pray for “humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:2-3, ESV). Pray for forgiveness, honest conversation, laughter, and time together. “A threefold cord is not quickly broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:12, ESV). See prayer app for couples.
How can The Pray App help you pray for your wife?
The Pray App keeps a prayer card for your wife so you pray for her every day. On Home, tap New prayer card, write your prayer, add her under Praying for, and set Repeat to Daily. Add a Bible verse, like Philippians 4:7.
After you pray, the summary lists her with a message button that opens Messages with “Hi Grace, I prayed for you today.” ready to send. Use Journal to write down what you’re praying for her and how God answers.
Write down what you’re praying for her, and come back to see how God answered.
Scripture also speaks to husbands directly: “Husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way… so that your prayers may not be hindered” (1 Peter 3:7, ESV). For the other side, see how to pray for your husband.
The Pray App is free on the App Store, with no ads. See how to keep a prayer journal.
