Bible and prayer app, read and pray in one place
· 2 min read
Why reading the Bible and praying belong together, a simple way to do both each day, and how The Pray App keeps your reading plan next to your prayers.

A Bible and prayer app puts your Bible reading and your prayer list in one place, so you can read God’s Word and then talk with Him about it. The Pray App does both: a reading plan you set up yourself, and prayer cards for the people and needs on your heart, each with a Bible verse.
Why read the Bible and pray together?
Reading the Bible and praying belong together because one is God speaking to us and the other is us speaking to Him. Jesus said, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:7, ESV). When Scripture fills our minds, our prayers start to ask for what God wants. A few verses read, then prayed back to God, is a simple daily rhythm.
What does the Bible say about the Word and prayer?
Scripture keeps the Word and prayer side by side. The apostles said, “We will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:4, ESV). The blessed person’s “delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:2, ESV). And the psalmist prays before reading, “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law” (Psalm 119:18, ESV).
How do you read the Bible and pray each day?
A daily Bible and prayer time can take as little as ten minutes:
- Ask God to open your eyes (Psalm 119:18).
- Read a short passage. A few verses to a chapter.
- Pray what you read. Thank God for what it shows about Him, confess what it shows about you, and ask for what it promises.
- Pray for others. Go through the people and needs due today.

How does The Pray App combine the Bible and prayer?
The Pray App keeps your reading and your prayers on the same Home screen. Tap Daily Bible Reading and choose how many verses a day you want from the New Testament, Old Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs. The app shows your total verses a day and about how long the plan will take. Tap Start plan.
Read the day’s passages in Today’s Reading, then mark the day complete.
Each day, open Today’s Reading, read the passages, and tap Commentary under a passage for a short explanation. Then tap Start praying on Today to pray through your prayer cards, each with a Bible verse you picked from suggestions.
Every prayer card can carry a verse to pray.
Is The Pray App right for you?
The Pray App fits Christians who want one simple place to read a daily portion of Scripture and pray for specific people and needs on an iPhone. It isn’t a full Bible study app with notes, highlights, original languages, or audio Bibles. If you already use a separate Bible app, you can still use The Pray App just for prayer, with a verse on each card. See also biblical prayer app and this Bible reading plan for beginners.
The Pray App is free on the App Store, with no ads. See how to follow a Bible reading plan.
Questions people ask
Is there an app with the Bible and prayer together?
Yes. The Pray App keeps a Bible reading plan and your prayer list in one app. You read the day's passages, then pray through the people and needs that are due, with a Bible verse on each prayer card.
Should I read the Bible before or after I pray?
Either works. Many find it helps to read first and then pray what they read, so Scripture shapes their requests. A short prayer before reading, asking God to open your eyes (Psalm 119:18), is a good start.
Does The Pray App include the whole Bible?
The Pray App includes a Bible reading plan you set up yourself, with New Testament, Old Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs tracks, and you read each day's passages in the app. It isn't a full Bible study app with notes and highlights.
